ARTIST STATEMENT
Playful integration of ideas is at the heart of mBarbara Lubliner’s art practice. Making artwork is the artists way to explore ideas and reveal hidden connections. The work is content-driven expression; over the years, it has ranged from two-dimensional works on paper and sculpture in a variety of mediums to video and performance art, public projects, and installations. Lubliner addresses themes such as environmental blight, mortality, gender, and language. The work is informed by an instinct to understand, accept, nurture, and transform.
Lubliner’s recent works utilize printmaking as a performative process. Thinking in terms of a set of tasks or a "Fluxus score" that generates the print. The series of monotypes "Cognitive Itches" utilizes letterforms and words to expressive an image. Each print can be read all at once as a visual expression and more slowly for nuance and linguistic meaning.
