B. 1953, New York, NY

ARTIST STATEMENT:

Walter Browns work straddles the interface between abstraction and figuration, science and art. After a career in the medical specialty of pathology, Brown became a full-time artist. Browns forty-plus years looking through a microscope influenced his visual perception, and he developed an artistic language based on that foundation. His approach to a blank canvas is without any suppositions, allowing his conscience to emerge through the process of painting, faces and bodies often appear and are welcomed. Spontaneity is the antidote to the rigidity and exactitude of his prior career.

The artist relies on abstract geometry to navigate through today’s political climate. Questioning his own position with regard to fake news, and the media in an attempt to simplify and thereby possibly learn something basic about truth and falsehood.
