PROJECT DEVELOPMENT LUCIA WARCK MEISTER

2024 PROJECT DEVELOPMENT ARTIST LUCIA WARCK MEISTER

Art Lives Here started working with Collaborating Artist Lucia Warck Meister in the fall of 2023 to develop and reimagine The Birth of Venus. We have been learning about her process and generous sensibility for much longer. Public art is at it’s best when it is generously inhabiting a space. Warck Meister has a comprehensive understanding of the simply truth of that statement.

2024/2025 Project Development Artist Lucia Warck Meister

Lucia Warck Meister has always been interested in exploring individual and collective memory and how they build the foundation of our identity. Who we are is contingent on what we remember and how we use those memories to construct new narratives. Through memory, the artist explores ideas of identity, gender, historical narrative, and visibility. Her current work focuses on the connection between historical narratives and nature. These narratives account for and explain key processes of history and communities.

The Birth of Venus is an installation in which the artist explores identity, narrative, and visibility. The installation speaks to and defines a new space for narrative construction. Where we question the tradition of great discourses to give rise to those that come from fragmented stories. This new birth is no longer individual, but collective, where the glass spheres that symbolize creative power in her work, refer to the stories and tales of women who supported the lives of many others. The strength and vulnerability present in glass spheres allude to that particular moment of calm that precedes action or movement. The translucent material quietly merges the installation with the environment.
