ARTIST STATEMENT:

Holly Meeker Rom works primarily in watercolor, and expands that transparent vocabulary with gouache, acrylic and collage. Her process begins outdoors, painting and sketching in plein air, capturing a sense of place beyond the site specificity of painting nature

Bio:

Holly Meeker Rom is a noted watercolor artist and teacher based in New York City, Ely MN, and Aspen, CO. She grew up on Long Island, New York. She has a B.A. degree in studio art from Mills College in Oakland, California in 1971 and an M.A. in Art Education from California State University, Sacramento and a M.F.A. in painting from The American University in Washington, D.C. in 1986.  She has studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, and the University of Utah.  She has taken workshops with such noted watercolorists as Carlton Plummer, Frederick Wong, Milford Zornes, Mel Stabin, Betty Lou Schlemm, Patricia Tobacco Forester and Eric Weigardt. For three years she was in a monthly critique seminar with Yale Professor Robert Reid (2002-06). Her studio art retreats at Anderson Ranch in Aspen/Snowmass, CO in winter 2017, resulted in a series of Dancer themed works on paper (exhibited at the White Room Gallery in Bridgehampton) and Winter Landscapes 2024 in Collage. Other exhibitions include: Ceres Gallery “Exposure2022”; www.nyartistscircle.com curated online shows in 2021,2022; American Watercolor Society Associate Members Juried Online Exhibition 2022; NIH Clinical Center Galleries, Bethesda, Maryland, and NYU Langone Medical Center MSB Gallery 2015.  Her paintings are in the collections of Time Warner, IBM and American Express, NYU and Lawrence Hospitals. Most recently she was named the Artist Laureate in 2023 by the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club. She served on their Board for many years organizing Exhibitions at the National Arts Club in NY.
