IN MY MIND | IN THE WILD

In My Mind | In the Wild a solo exhibition of paintings by Yael Dresdner at Margalit StartUp Gallery in SoHo Curated by Connie Lee On View May 8, 2025 - July 3, 2025

Dresdner’s paintings, which are mostly vertical, defy conventions of landscape painting by their intentional lack of a horizon line, creating a subtle tension between the surface of the canvas and the depth of field. Instead, she reflects on the feelings experienced in places that she has been to.

Exhibited in contrast to the contemporary urban design of the gallery space at Margalit Startup City are three bodies of work influenced by photos taken by the artist while traveling, or of sites frequently visited closer to the artist’s home in New York City.

Float, 2021-present. A series of oil paintings that is ongoing, exploring the destruction and regeneration in nature, as fallen branches and waterlilies co-exist along the banks of Lake Sebago in Harriman State Park, New York.

Galápagos Memory: the Uncertainty of Form, 2015- 2017. Oil paintings that refer to the primal, unfamiliar nature in the Galápagos Islands.

Travels in the South of France, 1991.Pastel paintings on paper that insinuate the organic nature of the fields and celebrate the light and color of the sun that define the region.

YAEL DRESDNER (b. 1958 Petach Tikvah, Israel) holds a BFA in Visual Communications from George Washington University and studied drawing and painting at The Art Students League and New York Studio School in NYC, as well as the Corcoran School of Art and Washington Studio School in Washington, DC.
